Josef's early career comprised 14 years in the Armed Forces, working in operational roles including international intelligence liaison, planning, logistics and electronic communications. During this time he qualified for an MBA degree in economics and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
For the next eight years Josef filled senior management positions, under contract, in German Banks, including Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, Dresdner Bank, WestLB, Postbank AG, plus UBS in Switzerland. His focus was in areas such as business process analysis and design, selection and implementation of software, and financial analysis.
In 1995 he set up his own organisation, GeM-Consult, to sell and deliver financial and business system consulting services using his own staff, particularly to the European banking sector, and continued this while relocating to New Zealand in November 2003.
During 2007-10 he worked as a Director and CEO of an enterprise set up to create a world class golf resort near Tauranga. Josef was responsible for designing the enterprise, from its concept through to detailed financial plans. He developed the marketing and sales collateral that helped him win US$50 million of overseas investor funding in 2009.
